KOTOBUKIYA News: Something Joe Quesada Can't @&%# Up!

Yes true believers you may have heard by now (or may not) that Kotobukiya has "Teamed Up" with US comic Juggernaut Marvel Entertainment for a multiyear deal that has KOTOBUKIYA producing several types of Marvel collectibles that range from their comic universe to their movie projects (maybe Kotobukiya can give us an ARTFX statue of Peter Parker acting like an out of character douche in the "I hate Mary Jane" saga, One More Day).

“We are excited to work with Kotobukiya as a premiere collectible partner, and we are confident that their talented designers will bring a new, fresh perspective to our characters. Our comics feature the most recognizable characters in the world, and that matches up well with Kotobukiya’s international style and commitment to quality.” said Joe Quesada, Marvel Editor-in-Chief and Chief Mary Jane Hater.

Kotobukiya? Outstanding company. Marvel? Outstanding company. I don't doubt for a minute that KOTOBUKIYA will give us some of the best Marvel collectibles out there. And with Bowen and Sideshow out there that's saying a lot.

Expect the first two releases to be based off the movie versions of IRON MAN and THE HULK.

I'm all over that IRON MAN.

SITE NEWS: Not Ripping Off Adult Swim... Ok I Am.

You know how adultswim gives out little stats during their commercial breaks? I like how they share their stats with the viewers I like that type of connection with the audience (although why they want to make us suffer by still promoting Tim & Eric is beyond me).

Well someone asked me the other day if I knew what countries actually visit this site. Well me being the stats geek I am I found out. And now that I found out I figured I'd share that with you.

Well obviously since this is an English speaking site it was no shock that the English speaking USA visited our site the most (It's also a US site so that also factors into it). Mainly I was very happy at the diversity I saw. That actually makes me feel good.

Anyway here are the ten countries that check us out the most.

SFIV: Ryu has Never Looked Better...

Street Fighter IV is about seven months away which feels like an eternity. In October a teaser trailer was released and now we have our first screenshot of the game. According to 1up the gameplay is strictly 2D. We don't have a full roster of characters but that question will be answered in time (although it is fun to speculate).

Check out the first official screenshot of Street Fighter IV below!!

NEWS: "We Stand at the Edge of a New Frontier—the Frontier of Unfulfilled Hopes and Dreams"

Big news out there in anime land. 2008 will bring us the latest (and long awaited) Macross series, MACROSS F.

In case the title wasn't blatant enough, the F stands for Frontier.

For those who wondered what, if anything was going to happen for Macross' 25 anniversary (goddamn I feel old). Well wonder no more. We don't know how long the show will be (in terms of episode count) but we do have a nice little teaser trailer.

So commence fangasming... now!

MOVIE NEWS: Live Action Ikki Tousen (It'll Only Work if They're Hot)

Yes this will only work if they're hot and wearing tattered clothing. You know it, I know it, everyone who's ever seen the girls from Ikki Tousen know it.

I've never read the comic but I know what the girls look like. Tendou, the walking Wikipedia of this site has read them and I'm curious to get his reaction on this. Still my reaction is that they better be attractive. I'm sure Tokyo Pop know this already as they are the ones spear heading this project.

While it would be nice if they hired Japanese actresses I'm doubtful that will happen. Hey I'm a realist, I know for most people Asian is Asian and that's that (nationality be damned) but hey I'd like to see a Japanese character played by a Japanese actress. Still I guess if people accepted a Casper Van Dien as the Filipino Johnny Rico in Starship Troopers then I guess they'll accept any hot big breasted hot chick to play Ryofu.

Maybe they might hire people who can “reasonably” pass for High School students (which seems to be a problem. That 20 something chick Bandai got to play Haruhi just didn’t work. Goddamn that was bad). For more info on this check out the link below.

Also here is an example of what the girls of Ikki Tousen look like. Yeah cast someone who looks like that.

HOT TOYS News: Tetsuwan Atom & Gatchaman

Well remember how I posted that first image from the new Tetsuwan Atom (Astro Boy) movie from Imagi Studios? Well Imagi and Hot Toys have come together to manufacture some goods based off that movie and the also in production Gatchaman movie.

I've been ignoring some of Hot Toys stuff in the past mainly because the past yeas has been a nothing but a wank fest for 80's nostalgia. While I do like the 80's (hell I'm 31 and that era had a huge impact on me but I'm also fully aware that time has moved on) I'd rather see them challenge themselves with other things that don't look like Alien or Predators or Terminator.

The Biohazzard figures look great (that's Resident Evil to the import impaired) and now the Appleseed stuff -awesome and now they're doing this. About damn time. Looks like we might get some more HT stuff on this blog after all.

Bandai X Medicom: New Era Hongo Takeshi Will Finally Make His Medicom Debut!

This is another "about damn time" bit of news for me. Ok, so it's one movie late but oh well. Be that as it may BM! will release Hongo as a Figure Oh Magazine exclusive (issue 117 to be exact). From the looks of it, it looks great, just like the actor Kikawada Masaya. Everything about it looks great. From the head sculpt to the clothes.

I can't wait but we're going to have to. Expect Hongo sometime in the middle of '08.

Seriously.

HOT TOYS News: "The Son Becomes the Father, the Father Becomes the Son"

In one-sixth form!

Wow while another Superman isn't that big a deal (except for those who missed out on him the first time) this one is a TWO in ONE Clark Kent Superman. Meaning you get to change his clothes to whatever persona you want him to be. Basically this will be the only Superman you'll ever need from HT. You get your Clark Kent and you get your Superman.

However the big news is that Jor-El will be released also. It's almost a dream piece. It's the Marlon Brando Jor El from the Richard Donner Superman Universe. Yeah that's a pretty big damn deal. Not much to see for the moment but check out the picture below. I felt that the release would be Brando and not the silver traveling suit that Superman had at the beginning of Superman Returns (which was a strong rumor).

Maybe one day HT will give us THE dream peice for us Super-fans; the Christopher Reeve one-sixth Superman. One can dream right?

Both are set for a December 2007 release (needless to say I'm getting two of each. you know, in case there is a fire or something and I can only frantically save one).

HELL FREEZES OVER: Street Fighter IV is Here!

And no I'm not talking about a Sonny Chiba sequel. I'm talking about Ryu, Ken, Gouki... Street Fighter IV is on it's way thanks to Capcom.

Not much is known about the game, either gameplay or characters. We know nothing other than SFIV is coming out and that Capcom has reassured the fans of it's commitment to the franchise. Below is a very artsy trailer but hell, it looks great (even though it gives us no indication of how the game itself will look). Anyway click on the images below to play the trailer.

ENJOY!

We'll Tear Your Soul Apa... oh wait, Wrong Cube

Hey from a distance it looks like the Lament Configuration. So sue me.

Anyway the good people from POPBOX have brought to us a miniature replica of the "All Spark" from Transformers the movie. This cube is about the size of a rubik's cube and it does have some die cast in it. How much or "what" remains to be seen but regardless it does look very cool and it's good to see som Transformers stuff from Hong Kong.

SONY: Asia Goes Black and Refuses To Go Back!

To no one's shock and or awe, Spider-Man 3 is doing well in Asia. While this post has a bit of a "well duh" factor to it, this does continue to show Spidey's continuing dominance in at the Asian Box office. Super Hero movies don't tend to do that well in Asian markets except for Spider-Man (although Superman Returns did have some success in Asia as it did very well in China while competing with the China’s own comic adaptation in the Donnie Yen/Wilson Yip collaboration, Dragon Tiger Gate).

As for how well Spider-Man 3 is doing just read the article below courtesy of VarietyAsiaOnline.com

"Spider Man" claims records in eight Asian territories

Written by Ian Mohr

Sony's "Spider-Man 3" set records Tuesday in every one of the eight Asian territories in which it bowed. Pic opens in dozens of other territories in the next few days, culminating Friday in its domestic launch on 4,253 theaters, the widest North American opening of all time.

Pic launched Tuesday in more than a dozen key territories, including Japan, France, Germany, Italy and South Korea. Another eight go today, with 30 more on Thursday (including China, Australia and Russia) and an additional 30 on Friday (including the U.K. and India).

Euro markets should report their initial tallies Wednesday. In its opening day Tuesday, Sony estimated that the pic hit ¥415 million ($3.47 million) in Japan, beating "Spider-Man 2's" ¥410 million. The first "Spider" took in ¥347 million in its first day in Japan in 2004.

In Korea, latest pic also beat out one-day marks for its predecessors, taking in 3.2 billion won ($3.44 million), Sony honcho Jeff Blake said.

In Hong Kong, Spidey saw the biggest opening day of all time, with $HK7.5 million ($958,984), besting previous record holder "Kung Fu Hustle."

Pic also drew the biggest ever opening day of any film in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines. In Taiwan, it saw the biggest weekday opening ever.

The list of domestic engagements could be tweaked by a few screens more or less but should comfortably beat the 4,163 locations in which DreamWorks bowed "Shrek 2" two years ago.

Sony launched "Spider-Man 2" at 4,152 in 2004.

The only other pics to have debuted in more than 4,000 locations are "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," "Madagascar," "Superman Returns," "Over the Hedge," "Mission: Impossible III" and "Shark Tale." All of those have been released since 2004, as Hollywood's race to put up massive opening numbers escalates.

After eight splashy premieres worldwide, Sony unspooled its final preem Stateside on Monday night, showing "Spider-Man 3" on 14 screens simultaneously at the Tribeca Film Festival.

At the preem party in Gotham, Sony Corp. chairman-CEO Howard Stringer wondered whether the studio should have rolled out "Spider-Man" in North America last weekend, when overall biz was way down, giving Peter Parker even more of a chance to make his money grab.

But either way, the exec was confident, saying that this installment in the series is "more of a date movie" than the first two in the franchise and thus has the potential to draw even wider demographics.

MEDICOM News: These Guys Would Have kicked my Ass in High School...

Yo!

Here we have another Medicom update for you guys. The underground manga hit The Worst have their own limited Medicom's. While the regular set is due out at the end of next month (which has been surprisingly been brought over here by Sideshow... not that I'm complaining) this new set won't be as easy to get.

Just how limited is this "Glam" Store Exclusive set (fyi- the Glam Store is the "Worst" official store in Japan)? Well Ryushin Kunou (that would be the long haired dude) is limited to 500 pieces while Kousei Takeda (short haired dude) is limited to 1000.

They look great don't they? Anyway enjoy the image below and look forward to see a gallery of them here...

HOKUTO NO KEN News: I will never cry again for tears are useless, Instead you should turn them to Ambition and Strength

"I Have No Regrets in my Heart!!!" These are the last words spoken by Raoh as he raises his fist to the heavens releasing all his chi to clear the sky of the nuclear storm..

On April 18th Hokuto No Ken's Raoh One of the Greatest Characters in Manga / Anime history will be getting a traditional Buddhist Funeral in his honor. The ceremony will be held at the Shingon sect's Tokyo branch, at the Shingon Koyasan Tokyo Betusin; In the actual series the Hokuto Shinken martial arts technique was first brought to Japan by a pupil of Kobo Daishi, the Shingon founder. A True Homage and honoring of this great character.

This legendary event will be held 10 days before the premiere of the new film The Legend of Raoh II: Fierce Fighting Arc, Raōh Den II Gekitō no Shō the Third installment of the 5 part Hokuto No Ken Shin Kyūseishu Densetsu and the last part of the Raoh saga which will feature the long awaited legendary final confrontation at Hokuto Renkitouza between Raoh and Kenshiro in new theatrical quality animation. The ceremony, which is being hosted by the film's distributor, will be held in a traditional manner, with the family of the deceased represented by creator Buronson, and with participation by HNK's Manga artist Tetsuo Hara. The funeral oration will be read by Takashi Ukaji, Raoh's voice actor; the funeral will also be presided over by singer Shinji Tanimura, a fan and friend of Hara and Buronson. All guests will also recieve a special wristband stamped with the mark of Kenoh for attending.

As a SUPER HUGE Fan of Hokuto no Ken this is certainly a day to remember. As it should be for every Hokuto No Ken Fan out there. Few fictional characters recieve this honor and certainly Raoh is one of the Most Deserving of it. Just typing this brings tears to my eyes, thinking about those last moments of the Raoh storyline. It is simply one of the Greatest moments in all Manga history. I will Raise My fist to the heavens in honor of one of the Greatest characters ever created in fiction. I believe truly that I speak for all of us at here at Henshin Hobby. As well as every TRUE HNK fan out there.. May you rest in peace Raoh. Your Legend will Live on in all of us..

わが生涯に一片の悔いなし!!

BANDAI News: Oh My God the Synchronization rate is 400%!!!!!

Bandai just loves giving you special exclusives and this is no exception. To celebrate the release of the first of four new Eva theatrical feature films (Rebuild of Evagelion) at the end of summer (Sept 1, 2007). Bandai and Yahoo Japan (Yeah you heard me) have teamed up to bring you a special retooled version of their XS-01 Eva-01 released earlier this year from the new SOC expansion series Tamashii SPEC or Soul of SPEC if you prefer. This exclusive version will be modeled after the Awakened Eva 01 that appeared in episodes 19-20 of the series, When Shinji faces off and massacres the 14th angel Zeruel. Wanting to protect his friends and "accepting" his piloting status (at least for that episode) even after the incident with his friend Touji. Shinji break all limits and reaches an unbelievable 400% synchronization rate during the battle making the Eva-01 go berserk, ripping off it's armor to reveal the S2 Organ inside it's chest and cannabilizing Zeruel among other things. Anyways' this version of Eva-01 will have many original parts that are not included with the first XS-01 release. New parts include- Heads, Arms, hands, chest (refer to the pics). So even if you've already got yeourself an XS-01 you probably would still want this Berserk version.

Preorder online starts next month (If you're in Japan) on May 20. Price will be 5000yen. If you're in the states make sure you get your favorite shop to see if they can have a contact in Japan order it for you. Image Anime our sponsor is also going to getting a very limited number of these Limited Exclusive Eva -01. Make sure to preorder early!! Click here.

If you live in Japan here's to link to order- here.

GOOD SMILE COMPANY News: An Alliance of figure heaven is made.

What can be better than buying a figure of an attractive dual katana weilding girl wearing a sailor fuku with a drama CD that has her voice and theme song? Good Smile Company and RED have teamed up to bring you Shuraki, a series of 1/8 scale PVC statues that include a drama CD and a special booklet with illustrations and background info on the character. The idea is a bit Queen's Blade-ish in the sense that each heroine will be designed by a well known Bishoujo artist. The first in the line up will be Akatsuki with her Sailor Fuku and Dual Katanas, she seems to have all the making of a popular heroine. Her accessories will of course be her weapons but she will also feature removable clothing to exchange with a battle damaged Sailor Fuku!!! Akatsuki will also include a Drama CD with an original Drama and original theme song. Ami Koshimizu of AIKa (Agent Aika) and Code Geass (Karen) fame is cast as the voice of Akatsuki in the CD drama. No release date or price has been given yet but as soon as it's announced you can bet I'll report it here!

HOKUTO NO KEN News: The 64th Hokuto Shin Ken Successor Makes his Debut!

Ryuuken… The Master is here!

Finally, after several waves and repaints of the SEGA catcher figures we finally have Ryuuken. The only man who ever handed Raoh his ass. Yes you read that sentence correctly. In many movies, TV series and comics there has been the “old master” character. It’s a staple of the martial arts genre. But Ryuuken is above them all. Whether you call him Ramon Kasumi or Ryuuken just know that he’s a Hokuto Shin Ken successor and that makes him one bad dude. He’s the only new figure in the latest series.

The figures in this latest wave are:

Ryuuken (New Figure), Raoh (Repaint), Toki (Repaint), Kenshiro (Repaint) and Uighur (Repaint)

The figures are 1000 Yen each and with a release date of April

BANDAI News: Blast that Trumpet!

Ichiro Kikaider 01 SIC has finally been announced!!!! He's gonna come with Double Machine just as Jiro came with Side Machine!!!

Ever since the release of Kikaider and Sidemachine back in the day, Many fans have been wanting to add a Kikaider 01 and Double Machine to their collection of SICs. The pic below is a concept drawing and the prototype has not been shown yet. I wonder if Jiro will feature the more poseable features of the newer SICs or be a bit stiff like the older releases up til Kuuga and Agito. I'm hoping he'll be more poseable like the newer stuff but if that's the case we should get Kiakider and Hakaider 2.0s to match up with a more advanced 01. Only time will tell of course, 01 and Double Machine will be released this May in Japan for the Price of 7500yen. This is a Must for fans of SIC and Kiakider. Bring on the Kiakider and Hakaider with Bikes 2.0!!!.

Kaiyodo News: Kaiyodo prepares a new Legend in articulated figures..

Up til now, the popular REVOLTECH line of figures has been all the work of one man, Yamaguchi Katsuhisa one of Kaiyodo's leading sculptors and modelists. After all it was Yamaguchi who was responsible for the creation of the Revoltech line as well as Kaiyodo's famed "Monoshaft Drive" Technology which made Kaiyodo famous to many action figure collectors. It has been a great ride for Revoltech this past year, Yamaguchi has brought us 20 some figures this year alone for his Revoltech Line.

Well this year Kaiyodo plans to up the ante of this Popular new format of figures, This May marks the first release in the all new line Revoltech 2G (2nd Generation) Unlike the first Revoltech Line which focused exclusively on Yamaguchi this new 2G line will focus on Kaiyodo's other famed artists, giving these other masters a shot at immortalizing beloved characters in the Revoltech style. The first release will be the Very popular Saber from Fate/Stay Night sculpted by fan favorite Tomohide Enoki who has done tons of work for Kaiyodo in the past several lines including Hokuto No Ken, Tiger Mask, Trigun, Chobits, and most recently the very impressive Fate Stay Night Bustup Figures.( Looking at those Bustups you can see why he was given the task of doing our Beloved Saber, this guy is a Master!) Future releases will include Rei and Asuka from Evangelion among other popular characters. I am very curious what other artists will be on this project but seeing how many licenses Kaiyodo has had in the past, I bet we'll see tons of awesome new lineups from this 2G line. Saber will be released this May in Japan and will retail for 2499yen (Tax included) She is quite impressive and is also the most expensive of the Revoltech figures so far. Regardless this is a Must get for Saber fans!! Let's hope more Fate Stay/Night characters are coming!!

BLOG Talk: Kamen Rider Kabuto FINAL Closing thoughts

Well well, the beginning of the new year has begun which also means the end of the current Kamen Rider Series and the beginning of a new one. Last weekend Kamen Rider Kabuto ended, it was probably my favorite KR series in awhile Although, I think it was mostly because of the Series Protagonist which I named my screen name after. Who's Character I admire. The show certainly had it's Ups and downs and the ending left a LOT to be desired and dissapointed many fans, myself included. It suffered greatly from marketing syndrome. Too much going on in the show for the purpose of selling toys which kept the show from having a solid direction. lack of direction means writers rushing and panicking for a quick, half hearted way to close all the subplots and gives us a rushed overly predictable ending. I'm sure the kids probably didn't mind but for us adults, it's really a downer. I guess in the end it's technically a show primarily aimed at a younger audience, So it's hard to really blast it when considering that fact. Since one shouldn't expect a series to have content for their target audience when they are NOT watching a show aimed at their target audience. Altho I do wish Bandai considered the older fans a bit more..

All negatives aside, KR Kabuto was quite entertaining and did have good characters and moments. Bringing back the respect to traditional Japanese food was a plus for me, Being a Japanese guy who grew up in a traditional background this was definetly a cool thing to see. A strong cast for the most part, Cool gimmicks like Cast off and Clock up which resulted in some pretty cool action sequences, Really nice rider designs was a plus as well. The story at it's strong point was not bad either, altho I still think they should have kept GSL as part of the actual continuity and not an alternate thing. I think it would have made the overall plot stronger. And Let's not forget the most important thing of all which for me had to be Tendou. His character was really the reason I like the series as much as I do. His mannerisms, style, signature gestures and lines were all things I thought were cool and liked very much but most of all his Philosophical outlook and eccentric attitude toward life, surroundings and the people around him are all things I can personally identify with. Which made his character deeper to me. sigh, talking about how much I love Tendou is really making it even more of a tragedy to me that the series ended as bad as it did. Nonetheless I will miss this cast and hope that they have a bright future ahead of them, some of them are already well established and will probably have lots of great future roles but for the rest of the cast who haven't had the time to boost their resume much yet (
