Macross Edification 01: MACROSS FRONTIER

I highly suggest watching this series. It's incredible, it's fantastic and odds are we're going to have a crap load of items from that show on this site. What show? MACROSS FRONTIER. There are only four episodes out now so it's not too late to get caught up.

Go watch it and spread the word because this show is amazing.

Check out the opening below.

KOTOBUKIYA Gallery: "Candy" Bikini Version (No, it's Not Edible)

I always have to tip my hat to Japanese companies for coming up with creative names for their items. Instead of bikini version they call it "Candy" bikini swimsuit version. I can't help but get a laugh from it.

I doubt we'll see a DC Direct "Candy" Bikini Power Girl statue (but man would it sell, you know it) but thank god companies like Kotobukiya are tagging on provocative words to their boxes. This red head here is again Shana from Shakugan no SHANA (this is her third gallery on the site I believe).

I dedicate this gallery to this socially awkward fanboy I met in New York who wouldn't shut is pie-hole about Shana Season 2.

Enjoy!

BANDAI X MEDICOM News: Limited Releases

While my feelings for the Kamen Rider Den-Oh series is pretty well known I can say that we're getting a release of Momotaros. He was my favorite character in the series and I'm sure I'm not alone in that regard (far from it actually).

Expect him to hit the streets of Japan in October of this year and goes for 17,640 YEN which converts to 170.49 USD (yay economy).

And below is the mail order release Plat Form of Den Oh. His retail is 17,640 (170.49 USD) and won't be out until February of 2009. Yep boys and girls 2009. I wish they did Ryotaro but oh well.

Unemployed Riders: Work for Hire

While Den-Oh wasn't my favorite RIDER series by any stretch I gotta say that after the show went off the air times were very lean for hero.

Working kids parties to pay the bills is pretty sad. Kinda reminds me of Ghostbusters 2. Oh well at least he's not cutting the ribbons at a new ramen house in Shinjuku. Then again kids parties are a hell in and of themselves. Poor guy.

MEDICOM News: Crimson Speed (Yeah Not My Best Title)

Well here are a couple of new items MEDICOM has shown us today. First and foremost the seeing the imperial royal guard finally making it's way to the RAH line is a great sign. Sign for what? Sign they'll do the Emperor (you know, the greatest character to come out the entire saga) that's what! Looks fairly sweet but we're not being shown his whole uniform at the moment. I don't doubt it will be great but there is no visual yet. However from the pic he does come with his force pike.

Expect him to hit the streets of Japan in October of this year and goes for 17,640 YEN which converts to 170.49 USD (yay economy).

Next up we have a Speed Racer medicom. This nostalgia infused protagnonist is now an RAH. If you've read this blog before then you know I could care less so the less said the better. He goes for 17,640 YEN (170.49 USD) and will be out as the same time the Royal Guard (I.E. October).

KOTOBUKIYA Gallery: Devil May Care...

Well I'm glad this gallery is up. Kotobukiya has gotten a lot of praise over this statue and deservedly so. It's the best representation of Dante ever created. So much so even Capcom echoed those same sentiments. Honestly it's a beauty and I hope you agree.

This gallery was fun to work on and I can't wait until the next DMC PVC statue that Koto does. Who knows, I might be inclined to do a video gallery of them all. Well, lets not get ahead of ourselves.

Until next time enjoy the gallery.

Statue NEWS: The King of Hell is Here!

And no I'm no talking about those losers Mephisto, Malebolgia or Neron. All are crap compared to Kasumi Kenshiro.

No, not the Kenshiro from HOKUTO NO KEN (that's FIST OF THE NORTH STAR for the uninitiated). He's Kenshiro's "uncle" from the kick ass prequel SOUTEN NO KEN (known to westerners as FIST OF THE BLUE SKY). While I fully expect to see figures at some point Iin the near future (I'm hoping for Kaiyodo) I think this is the first big money collectible for the series that I can think of. What I'm talking about is this 1/6 scale statue from Nodaya who are no strangers to the Hokuto No Ken universe (having done Kenhiro, Rei, Jyuza and Souther over the years).

It's 31,290 YEN which converts to 305.12 USD. This is a must get for me and I fully expect this beauty to be on the site. No release date as of the moment but I'm pretty sure since this is a Nodaya release we can expect a few repaints to come out if.

1/6 NEWS: Motoko and Batou by... SKYNET?!

Seriously, Skynet? Not Medicom or Hot Toys or even Takara - F'n SKYNET is doing it. Wow. I didn't even think they where around anymore. I do have a couple of their dolls already. I have the Golgo 13 and the old Kenshiro (the Real Japanese Hero's line) and while they were cool (The Medicom stuff back then was better) at the time they by no means compare to what's out there now. That horrid old body makes the Sideshow Art S. Buck body look like a milestone by comparison (I think they used the old Hall of Fame body).

Now I guess SKYNET will be giving us a 1/6 Motoko Kusanagi and Batou from the famous series GHOST IN THE SHELL: STAND ALONE COMPLEX. In all honestly they better impress because they aren't cheap as both retail for 15,540 YEN each (151.53 USD... what a crap conversion rate). Both plan on being released July of this year. I have my doubts but we'll see product pics soon enough. The figure line art is below.

Gallery Teaser: "Sorry, Not Open for Business Yet"

This teaser should come as no surprise as it's that white haired dude in that's featured in our banner. He's very impressive and his extensive gallery should be up any day now.

Yep.

Any day now. At any time this gallery could pop up and sneak up on you like a ninja... BAM! What's that? Is that the Dante Gallery? Nope. Not yet but soon padawans.

GALLERY TEASER: Flame (Haze) On!

Red headed killing machine in a bikini. You had me at red head.

No I'm not talking about Mary Jane Watson Park... err, oh yeah (just Mary Jane Watson will due). Anyway Shana's about to have her third gallery on this site. Expect her gallery soon.

Movie News: Dreamworks has GHOST IN THE SHELL in 3D... We're Gonna Need a Bigger Screen

After the big screen anime to live action rumblings of Dragonball, AKIRA, Ninja Scroll to even crappy shows like Speed Racer (its crap admit it. The only reason people in the states dig it is because of that goddamn theme song) it's not hard to see why studios keep making these. After all, the anime medium has tons of genres that are vastly unique to western audiences. While we bitch at tired remakes at least Hollywood is going after newer game.

Variety tells us that now Steven Spielberg has landed the rights to Masamune Shirow's "GHOST IN THE SHELL".

While normally I do cringe at anime turn live action I don't feel too skeptical about this. Spielberg being attached to this does mean that it will be taken seriously and not half-assed in anyway. I'm curious to see the approach he'll take on this. The current Stand Alone Complex era type of police story telling is the one DreamWorks is going to focus on which great because I don't think the mass U.S. audiences can sit through the beautiful yet in the weeds future tech talk that tends to bleed through Masamune Shirow's work (where entire manga chapters can be about the complexities of a brake clutch and its relation to humanity).

Still I don’t want the property to be dumbed down as Spielberg tends to think mainstream audience first (which is a perfectly reasonable thing to think of. Realistically the amount of money that’s going to be poured into this project is going to need that mainstream money to make a profit). Add to the fact that this movie will be in 3D. That could be incredible if pulled off correctly.

Normally I would say something like, "GOD HATES US and this is why" but the license could really be in worse hands.

I just hope the casting isn't too terrible because that’s when the hair pulling starts (ten bucks say an Asian isn't playing Motoko Kusangi. 20 bucks on them changing her name entirely).

High Dream News: DIECAST ODYSSEUS...

"Oh Yeah, High Dream."

That's what came to mind actually when I saw an email from them in my inbox. I don't remember the last time I got an email from them. I met one of the High Dream sculptors (a very polite Frenchman whose name totally escapes me) at Toy Fair a couple of years back and I liked what I saw from High Dream. He was very passionate about his work and his toy philosophy was similar to my own. However I wondered how long they were going to be in around. Lets face it, they were very small (and still are) and they were struggling to get orders for their merchandise like the their-then potentially great SNK vs. Capcom 2 line (which I liked more than the SOTA Street Fighter line. If you've ever seen their prototype Guile then you know what a shame it is the line didn't continue).

I've always seen their stuff here and there but I was always fond/perplexed of how hard they tried to release merchandise here. Merchandise that in all honesty would only appeal to a certain core audience (like those who would spend money on an obscure show like ULYSSES 31).

Luckily for me I fit that audience.

So when I first opened up my email I was very surprised to see some "in production" images of the ODYSSEUS spacecraft from ULYSSES 31. I do remember the show pretty vividly as it was on the Spanish channel when I was little Gatack. I do have fond memories of it. If you don't remember (or know) the Japanese/French co-produced series then odds are that you're not going to get it but for those who do, you're in for a treat.

Below are some images of the ODYSSEUS Diecast ship. When will I have it in my hands? Who knows, it might take a while for it to hit the streets (like most High Dream items) so I don't have an answer to that unfortunately (and before you comment on the ODYSSEUS I can already read your mind; YES it does bear a resemblance to the Autobot Matrix of Leadership. Or actually the Matrix bears a resemblance to the ODYSSEUS. It did come first).

And further below that is the opening to the show in Spanish. Why the Spanish version? Because I feel nostalgic at the moment. Dig it.

ENTERBAY News: Never Slap A Chinese Guy in the Face...

No, not something I'd recommend and especially not to this guy.

ENTERBAY has had this pic for a while on their site and I figure it would be good to post it here in case people haven't seen it already. I still crack up at this image. Every character Bruce played wore their emotions on their sleeves and Chen Zhen is no exception to that rule. I have a lot of questions about this release (it is my favorite Bruce movie after all so I'm beyond curious really).

I know what this Bruce SHOULD come with but who knows what the reality will be. Anyway, click below to see what an enraged Chinese man looks like.

Movie News: Yep, God Still Hates Us

Images of the live action Dragonball movie have started to leak over the net.

I have nothing to add.

Just click below.

KAIYODO Gallery: Giving the Devil It's Due

While I prefer the FEWTURE style, Nirasawa Devilman the most I still respect the classic incarnation that Go Nagai created 36 years ago. Kaiyodo has done Devilman in the past; in the form of action figures so they're no strangers to the license (or to the countless repaints they subjected us to) and these statues are very detailed. Outstanding sculpting through and through, which is expected by anything Kaiyodo (at least that's my thought process anyway).

What really surprised me was how small these statues are. Really, these are smaller than your standard Revoltech.

Enjoy!

SHOOT TO FLY 002: Hongo's Back!

I know that we're behind schedule on certain galleries but we're back on track now. For the moment here's a pic of something I've been waiting for for quite some time. It's rare that we have diecast on the site (something we plan on fixing this year) and when it's something as awesome as Kamen Rider (especially classic riders) in diecast form well then I see no reason not to take a shot of it.

Enjoy!

VIDEO: JOIN THE REBELLION!

Yes folks, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 is almost upon us. Personally I'm very excited, as are the other members of Henshin Hobby. I admit I've gotten far behind on when it comes to shows but Code Geass grabbed me and never let go.

I also know who to blame for my slight weight gain because before I watched Code Geass I had a good streak of a couple of years that I didn't order Pizza Hut.

That streak ended because of the show.

April 6th is the day that season two will hit the airwaves and honestly the cliffhanger that we got at the end of season one was one for the ages. Hell I can't wait.

Below is one of the many promos for season two - ENJOY!!
